Prayers are needed for Varney. We have been advocating for a medical visa and medical care for him for the past year. Poor Varney had needed a shunt for some time and due to the lack of resources in Liberia didnt get it. We were so close to him having help but doctors in the U.S. are saying he needs palliative care as they feel he wouldnt make the air plane flight. We have another doctor who feels he can be helped in Ghana and been pursuing that. In the mean time we continue to help his mother with funds and food. Kari is holding him as we get his weight. She said his head was so heavy she couldnt hold him very long. Imagine being his mother! His mother loves him so and is doing the best she can with him. She lives in a slum area and barely gets by. She lives in a Muslim community who have not been very supportive of her. Thank goodness for her grandmother who is there to assist.
I love this picture of Kari and Varney's mother. They look like they are having quit the conversation and are connecting as mothers....
We were sadden to see his head still growing when we were told it had halted.
Please keep them in your prayers. He might not make it much longer. Pray for strength and courage for his mom as she walks through this and that she know she is not in this alone. Many continue to ask about him and some have given financially to his care. We want to say thank you to all of you for thinking of him during this time.
