Our Little Liberian Leprechaun

Courage Samuel turned 4 today! With adoptions closed in Liberia, we have been raising this child with his Gma in Liberia. (we adopted his brother and sister several years ago)  He has a bright future ahead of him regardless which country he grows up in.. We are encouraging him and assisting him to become all that God's called him to be.

African Kinship Care

African Kinship Care is a program that assist Liberian families care for children that might otherwise end up in orphanages. These are children whose parents are either missing or passed away and a relative is willing to care for them. Or a Liberian family who is willing to foster a child not of their own.  And in some cases we will come along side a family who has a special need and needs assistance with keeping their child in their care. Because adoptions are currently closed in Liberia, African Kinship Care is needed all the  more to sustain a healthy and loving family environment for children otherwise orphaned.

The families shown here have sponsored assistance however we do have waiting families.

Contact us if you are interested in more information in helping a child/family in this program. The needs are great and those answering the call are few...

Amah needs an adoptive family

This is a message from Debbie who works in Liberia with Orphans. She needs our help in finding a family for Amah. I believe in the power of networking and God's Direction. So please pass this message on and lets help Debbie with Amah getting a forever family of his very own. Thank you!!

Thank you also for offering your assistance towards helping find an
adoptive family for Amah.

Amah is 11 years old. He has had a growth on his left knee for quite
some time. About a year and a half ago I had it examined by a doctor
who took x-rays and said there was nothing to worry about.

Since then, the growth has continued to grow and become more painful.
However, it does not keep him from playing or doing any other
activities. I took him to a different doctor a few weeks ago who did a
new set of x-rays. Those x-rays showed a new growth near his knee cap
as well as what looks suspiciously like a tumor growing on his femur.
Amah and his x-rays were examined by another Liberian doctor that
concurred with the first one's concern. We also had a doctor visiting
from the states who examined Amah and his x-rays, and who also agrees
with the concern of the other two doctors. Since there is not a
radiologist here, we have sent the x-rays to the states hoping for a
more accurate diagnosis. In the mean time all three doctors have
recommended that we find away to get Amah out of Liberia because even
if it is not cancerous (which they are suspicious of) it will take a
series of complicated surgeries and years of follow up for him to be
treated for the suspected tumor that is there.

Amah has lived in an orphanage that I work with since 2004. In talking
with the orphanage director this week I discovered that he does (or at
least did at that time) have family living in Bong County. His mother
brought him to the orphanage after his father abandoned them and she
could no longer care for him. We are trying to make contact with her
to include her in this process. We are working on getting him a birth
certificate and then will pursue a passport as well.

I have already talked to the MoHSW about Amah. She suggested
we start with finding an adoptive family.  I am hopeful that a
family that is already approved for adoption will come forward to
adopt Amah.

This process is new to me. Even though I work with orphans, adoption
is not in my normal scope of expertise. Any assistance or advice would
be much appreciated.

The Potter's Hands

Just Think-
You are not by chance but by God’s choosing his hand for you and made you the person you are.He compares you to no one else.
You are one of a KIND!
You lack nothing that his Grace can’t give you. He has allowed you to be here at this time in history to fulfill his special purpose for this generation.
What you do with this is up to you!

Happy New Year

So Santa looks a little "un Jolly" and Anthony is wondering who this man is. I am sure he has not seen Santa in Liberia. At any rate- Anthony had a wonder Christmas with his host family and continues to thrive and heal. What a precious little boy.

On another note- I have been communicating with  people in Liberia and there is now a resource set up for children with hydrocephalus to receive medical treatments through another medical organization who has established themselves in Liberia. We look forward to working with through referrals and with their women's support group for children of hyrdrocelphalus. More on this later.

Happy New Year!

New Year Wishes

Dear Friends of Global Orphan Outreach;
I wanted to take time to personally thank you for your continued support and prayers as we partner together to reach out to orphans and families in need in Africa. This past year has been a very trying year with many ups and downs. With God’s Grace we will continue to step out in faith as we extend compassion. I am reminded of the song – I Refuse- and in the lyrics he sings:

Sometimes I just want to close my eyes and act like everyone's alright, when I know they're not.
This world needs God, but it's easier to stand and watch.
I could say a prayer and just move on like nothing's wrong. But I refuse…
'Cause I don't want to live like I don't care. I don't want to say another empty prayer

To sit around and wait for someone else, To do what God has called me to do myself.
Oh, I could choose not to move but I refuse…
I can hear the least of these, crying out so desperately.
And I know we are the hands and feet Of You, God.
So, if you say move then It's time for me to follow through and do what I was made to do.
To stand and watch the weary and lost, cry out for help. I refuse to turn my back and try and act like all is well.
I refuse to stay unchanged or to wait another day, to die to myself.
I refuse to make one more excuse… cause I Refuse.

I hope that you will continue to stand with us as we refuse to wait for someone else to do what we are called to do. Let’s send the message of Love to them this Christmas and beyond into the coming year through encouragement, empowerment, and support.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We are BACK!!!

Global has had technology issues for the past several months. We are back on the blog! Our website is being updated too. So much has taken place this past year. Next posting I will update on that. In the mean time..Here are some awesome updates on the 4 boys we have here on medical visas. Three are ready to go back to Liberia. Two are going to be adopted as special needs children and be back in the states this coming year.

We are especially thankful for our host families who do a wonderful job caring for the children.

Baby Anthony turned two this past spring. Here was a baby boy who could only wimpier when we brought him here. After several surgeries and time..he is talking, rolling, and interacting beautifully with his host family. We foresee a long term stay for Anthony yet as he has a few more surgeries to go.

This is Melvin and his host mama. They are headed back to Liberia in December. Melvin is deaf and had several medical issues addressed while he was here. He is a candiate for coclear implants once he is an American citizen. It is an exciting journey for Melvin not only to have a new family but to be able to hear.

Brown has been in the states for some time and is now making his way back to Africa as soon as his passport has been cleared. His host families did wonders for him. He is being adopted into a family with more boys. What a blessing for Brown.

Chris is headed to Liberia in a few short weeks to return to his family. He had eye surgery and has had a wonderful stay in the states while he under went his treatments.

**Its important to note that GOO does not do adoptions. Once in awhile a hosted child qualifies for adoption and should a host family desire to adopt we refer them to Angel Haven Adoptions to discuss the case further.
